We hope you enjoy your stay with us at Pebble Bank Holiday Park and with so many beautiful places to visit in our local area, you simply will never want to leave! Here are just a few local attractions and places of interest, right on our doorstep at Pebble Bank Holiday Park.
Chesil Beach is located on the South coast of England in the county of Dorset. It is a pebble beach 18 miles long and stretches north-west from Portland to West Bay. For much of its length it is separated from the mainland by an area of saline water called the Fleet Lagoon.
The Fleet Lagoon is a shallow area of saline water between Chesil Beach and the mainland. It is 13 km long. Its width varies from 900 metres at Littlesea down to just 65 metres in the Narrows. The deepest part is 4-5 metres deep, but all of the mid and upper Fleet is less than 2 metres deep.
Hamm Beach is on the eastern side of Chesil Beach facing into Portland Harbour. It is formed from material from the east side of Portland moving north to form the Mere barrier and then Hamm Beach. It is an area of shallow sand dunes overlaying shingle.
Both of the beaches and the lagoon are important areas for wildlife with a number of national and international designations to help protect this important area. The area lies at the centre of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO designated World Heritage Site.
Weymouth is an ideal location for South Coast cruising holidays. It boasts one of the shortest passages across the channel and there is no better way to experience the wonders of the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline than by sea. We are a small but busy port and as one of the most attractive in Europe we welcome thousands of transits each year.
Our friendly team at Pebble Bank Holiday Park look forward to your visit where you can enjoy relaxing in the charm of our beautiful old harbour and soaking up the atmosphere.
Weymouth Beach is a three mile beach and is just minutes from the town centre and historic harbour. There’s plenty of entertainment for everyone to enjoy on Weymouth Beach ranging from traditional attractions such as Punch & Judy and donkey rides, to lively events such as beach volleyball championships, live music and free summer firework displays.
Enjoy a stroll along the level promenade or on the sands with your dog during the quieter months, take part in the Christmas “Chase the Pudding” race or just relax in the sunshine on a summers day. The views from Weymouth Beach and the bay are spectacular, stretching across the horizon taking in the Jurassic Coastline.
The ‘isle’ of Portland, located on the World Heritage Coast, is an explorer’s Island with curiosities of history and folklore just waiting to be discovered.
Portland was the host venue for the sailing events for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and is an ideal place to visit for a host of activities. The waters provide the perfect setting for angling, diving and sailing.
Portland’s unique geology and its position are ideal for a wide variety of birds, animals and plant life. So, if you enjoy bird-watching then come and indulge your passion, plus there are fifty seven species of butterfly that occur in the British Isles and over half of these can be seen on Portland! You can also discover a wide variety of plants, including many rare species!
